The Boardwalk: The world famous 3-mile oceanfront promenade is the place to see and be seen in Virgina Beach. Over the years, it has been renovated, widened and landscaped with pretty pedestrian entrances, larger-than-life sculptures, manicured park areas. The main resort area is along Pacific Avenue from 1st Street through 40th Street.

Events: Virginia Beach hosts a variety of national sporting events including: ESPN X-Trials, Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, East Coast Surfing Championship, and the North American Sand Soccer Championships. From the main beach ranging from 1st to 40th Streets, it can accommodate every beach activity known to man and woman, including:

• sailing
• boat races
• triathlons
• sea kayaking
• open-water swimming
• sport fishing

Lifeguards: are on duty from 9:30a-6p daily, from mid-May to mid-September between 1st and 40th Streets and at Camp Pendleton, Croatan, Sandbridge and Fort Story beaches.

DESCRIPTION: 1,000-seat theater on the beach hosts a variety of productions, from symphony, theater and musicals; the calendar of events is loaded and seats fill fast, so book your tickets early.

Restrooms: permanent restrooms are on 30th, 24th and 17th Streets and the Boardwalk. Portable restrooms are at 2nd Street.

Pets: are not permitted on public beaches, the boardwalk, or the grassy area between the boardwalk and hotel property from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pets are however, allowed under control, in the residential area north of 42nd Street or south of Rudee Inlet after 6p and before 10a. Virginia Beach spends a lot of money keeping beaches clean. Do your part. Be Eco-friendly by carrying airtight containers for pet clean up.

Parking: More than 4,300 non-metered and 800 metered on-street parking spaces are available. Parking meters are enforced 1 April-30 September. Paid lots are located at 25th and Pacific Avenue, 19th and Pacific Avenue, 9th and Pacific Avenue and Rudee Loop at the south end of the at the oceanfront. With the exception of the 9th Street Parking Deck, municipal parking lots charge a seasonal fee and are located at 4th Street metered parking, 9th Street and Pacific Avenue, 19th Street and Pacific Avenue, 25th Street and Pacific Avenue, 31st Street and Atlantic Avenue, and at Croatan and Sandbridge beaches.

Free parking available at the Pavilion Convention Center and 1000 19th Street, on a first-come basis.

ADA-Friendly: Designated disabled off-street parking lots include: Rudee Loop-Lighthouse Restaurant and the Municipal Parking Lots at 9th Street and Pacific Avenue, 19th Street and Pacific Avenue, 25th Street and Pacific Avenue, and 31st Street and Atlantic Avenue. Designated disabled on-street parking is at Rudee Loop, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 33rd, 34th, 36th, 37th and 38th Streets. Access ramps for the disabled are located at 1st to 8th Streets, 13th, 17th, 20th and 30th Streets.
