Hill House Community Center
DESCRIPTION: A magnet institution since 1964 by promoting love, self-respect, and self-esteem for many needy citizens of the upper Hill District. The center provides art, singing, and dance programs, child care services, parenting programs, senior services, summer youth camp, employment transition support, neighborhood development and more. It occasionally hosts jazz concerts.

Kuntu Repertory Theatre
DESCRIPTION: Kuntu is reflective of African Art, Philosophy and Life. See one of a kind plays from established and up-and-coming playwrights. August Wilson’s plays were performed here before he went on to Broadway fame. Kuntu has offices at University of Pittsburgh, Department of Africana Studies. Most plays are performed at Stephen Foster Memorial Auditorium at the University of Pittsburgh.

Jazz Hall of Fame
DESCRIPTION: Established in 1977, this small self-guided museum celebrates the achievements of jazz greats such as Dizzie Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Grover Washington, Jr., Clark Terry and Pittsburgh jazz musicians such as Errol Garner, George Benson, Stanley Turrentine, and Nathan Davis. Exhibits include instruments donated by several of the aforementioned musicians.

DESCRIPTION: The University of Pittsburgh has the distinction of hosting an Africa nationality room among numerous other rooms named after nations around the world. It would have been more honorable and scholarly for Pitt to establish rooms that represent actual African nations.
