National Museum of African American Music Review

DESCRIPTION: Opened in 2021, the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) is the only museum solely dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of Black Music in America. The museum’s curated collections share the story of the American soundtrack by integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present. In that manner, its galleries for Blues, Gospel, Jazz, Soul, Funk, and Hip-Hop music educate the world, preserve the legacy, and celebrate the central role of African Americans in creating the American soundtrack. This 56,000-square-foot facility is located at the Avenue of the Arts in the redevelopment project of the former Nashville Convention Center. Get ready for an immersive experience. You need at least 90 minutes to fully enjoy the museum. For $1 more, guests can receive an RFID bracelet to register with your email address. As you move through the museum, hold your RFID bracelet over each interactive station’s sensors to save playlists, videos, and more. Download your media when you get home and enjoy your visit all over again! Situated in the heart of Nashville, NMAAM is within walking distance of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Bridgestone Arena, and the Ryman Auditorium.
