Black Spas

Banks are failing. Homeowners face foreclosure. Unemployment is at a record high. Is this really the time to go to a spa? For some, it is apparently. About 58 percent of spa booking agents expect 2008 to be stronger than 2007, according to a study by spafinder.com. I don't think that's particularly surprising. The whole reason for going to a spa is to relax and de-stress, and what better time to do it then when the financial sky is falling? I know, it sounds counter-intuitive and probably even financially irresponsible. How many tanks of gas can you buy if you forego a spa treatment? (I'm lucky enough to drive a Saturn. A mani/pedi just about fills up my tank.) But I'm sure spa goers aren't spending all day luxuriating in expensive, exotic treatments now, even if they used to be able to afford to. Maybe they're just getting a pedicure or going in for a basic massage. With the downturn in the economy, will you be visiting a spa anytime soon? Why or why not?
