Related to the United Church of Christ and The United Methodist Church, Dillard University is a private liberal arts college founded in 1869, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The university's name resulted from the merger of Straight University and Union Norman, and is named after distinguished educator Dr James Hardy Dillard.

    Dillard's nearly 2,000 students converge on its inviting 48-acre campus set in a residential section featuring ancient oak trees, wide stretches of well-kept lawns, and 21 buildings housing administrative offices, student residences, and state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. Due to its intimate size, the average classroom has 15 students, and approximately 40% of all students live in on-campus housing.

    In addition to its Upward Bound program that targets disadvantaged high school students with college potential, Dillard features the National Center for Black-Jewish Relations, reportedly the only one of its kind in the world.
